Managers, Competition Department | Financial Conduct Authority | £Competitive
Since April 2013 the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has had a unique mandate to promote effective competition in the financial services sector. And following recent legislative changes, from April 2015 it will not only have power to enforce the anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominance and markets provisions of the Competition and Enterprise Acts, but also the responsibility to establish the Payment Systems Regulator as a subsidiary of the FCA.
The FCA is recruiting competition specialists to drive this agenda forwards. If successful, you will focus on investigation of competition issues in any of the retail or wholesale financial markets regulated by the FCA, including in the regulation of payment systems.
These roles provide an exciting opportunity to help shape how the FCA approaches and delivers on its competition mandate. The outputs of the work you would undertake would have a profound impact on markets and many people’s lives.
We have opportunities for Managers to join the expanding department. As a Manager you will be responsible not only for the prioritisation and delivery of market studies, but also, when concurrent powers come into effect, Competition Act cases. You will lead your area of the competition investigations team and ensure high quality management and development for all team members. These are challenging roles requiring good judgement and the confidence, discipline and intellectual ability to deliver in a demanding environment.
Ideally, candidates will have previous experience of working in a Legal or Economic role. This could be in a law firm, consultancy, competition or regulatory agency.
The roles offer an attractive package of salary and benefits, and extensive development opportunities in applied economics, financial services and broader professional skills.
